Preparation Checklist
  • Review the Summer Start Calendar.
    • Check back often and follow instructions.
  • Watch the Pre-Arrival Guide.
    • Go through each module, watch the videos, and answer the questions.
  • Join the Summer Start 2018 Facebook Group.
    • Connect with other new freshmen and current students in our private group.
  • Manage your UC Davis email.
    • Check your UC Davis email daily; forward your UCD email to your preferred email account - recommended especially if Google is blocked in your home country.
  • Upload a photo for your AggieCard.
    • Submit a photo by June 30 to get your AggieCard on the first day of Summer Start.
  • Understand your visa responsibilities.
    • All non-U.S. citizens and non-Permanent Residents must have an F-1 student visa and I-20 with an August 4 start date. You may enter the United States with your F-1 visa up to 30 days before August 4. 
      • Canadian citizens do not need to apply for an F-1 visa but must maintain F-1 status. U.S. citizens should enter with their U.S. passport. Contact us if you have another immigration status.
  • Take the English Language Placement Exam (ELPE).
  • Satisfy health and wellness and insurance requirements.
    • UC Davis requires proof of immunizations prior to arrival. Submit immunization proof online through Health e-Messaging. You must do this to register for classes!
    • You must also have health insurance from the first day of Summer Start (August 4) through the first day of fall quarter (September 24). See instructions for insurance in Pre-Arrival Forms
    • Get a medical exam (optional).
    • Visit your doctor and dentist for a routine check-up and to plan for adequate prescription medications.
  • Complete Summer Start Pre-Arrival Forms by July 15.

      • Arrange your transportation to Davis.
      • Make plans for the break between Summer Start and Fall Quarter.
    • Health Insurance Form
      • All UC Davis students are required to have health insurance. Review your options and make a selection.
    • Registrar Form
      • Available in May and necessary to register for summer courses
    • Parental Consent Form (only those under the age of 18)
  • Arrange your housing for Summer Start and the academic year (fall-winter-spring).
    • During Summer Start, you will live in the on-campus residence hall. 
    • Residence hall accommodation between the end of Summer Start and fall quarter will be available for an additional $420, and signup will occur in August.
    • Reserve your residence hall up for the academic year with Student Housing by late June.
  • Get familiar with My UC Davis and Schedule Builder.
    • You will use a variety of online tools during your time at UC Davis. Spend some time now in My UC Davis and Schedule Builder to get used to these tools ahead of course registration.
  • Register for Summer Start courses and pay tuition and fees.
    • Register for Summer Start courses online in June. You will receive detailed instructions, including which courses to take, by email. Do not register for Summer Start courses on your own without prior approval.
    • Check MyBill for your bill and payment methods. Payment is due July 15.
  • Register for fall quarter courses.
    • You will register for fall courses online in June or July depending on your college. Check your UCD email for instructions from your college advisor.
    • Your bill for fall classes will also appear in MyBill. Payment is due September 15.
