About Nadia Bostan

Nadia Bostan belongs to Swat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan known as the “Switzerland of Asia”. Growing up, her family had a background in agriculture, and today Nadia has a rich work experience in diverse livelihood sectors of Pakistan. She is passionate about food security and agriculture development with a special focus on small fruit production and commercialization and the role of women in agricultural development. She holds a doctorate and master’s degree in horticulture from The University of Agriculture Peshawar Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She also enjoyed a distance education experience with Oregon State University under the certificate course “Blueberry Physiology, Production Systems and Management.”

Nadia worked for 11 years in different organizations, including local, national and international organizations for the development of agriculture and enhancing the role of women in this development. Currently, she serves her homeland as a Research Officer (Horticulture) at Agriculture Research Institute.  

Nadia was chosen to participate in the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program in Agriculture and Rural Development and hopes the knowledge and exposure gained here will help her re-envision her future work in agriculture and rural development. She further hopes that the new learnings and techniques she brings back home to Swat Pakistan will help her to achieve her goal of the introduction and commercialization of small fruits as well as enhancing the role of women in agriculture.
