Kaustella Kialain-Sarsih is a versatile and result-oriented engineer with 10 years of experience implementing sound and safe public works projects and eight years of administrative experience. Currently, Kaustella is assistant minister of operations at the Ministry of Public Works in Liberia, where she plans, manages and supervises road maintenance works to ensure the accessibility and functionality of roads, drains, bridges and sidewalks. She is keen on adapting appropriate, cost-effective road maintenance methods to meet Liberia's infrastructure needs amid prevalent economic challenges. A mentor to female engineers at work and in her community, she helps raise funds for civil servants with medical bills and has helped promote COVID-19 health and safety practices on project sites. Kaustella holds a Master of Science in chemical engineering from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology and a Professional Research Certificate and Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Stella Maris Polytechnic University. Kaustella fulfills her passion by helping to bridge the development gap between Liberia and the Western world. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Kaustella plans to start an engineering consultancy business that will give women equal opportunities to men to excel in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) professions.
