Mr. Mariscal is a Forestry Engineer. He received his Masters Degree in Forestry Science in 1993 at University Federal of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. For eighteen years he worked with the National Environmental Authority in Panamá where he had several departmental leadership positions. He is currently the coordinator of the Native Species Reforestation Project (PRORENA) for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panamá. As a Humphrey Fellow, Mr. Mariscal will study carbon credit markets and learn about reforestation programs to help landholder’s farm in a tropical region like Panamá. He hopes to be a leader in the Carbon Credit Market to the Central American region working with the World Bank.
