Pilar Lillo has a bachelor´s degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Chile, a Diploma in Management and Design of Innovation Projects in the Public Sector from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a Diploma in Management, Quality, and Food Safety from the University of Chile.

Pilar has more than seven years of experience working in the Livestock and Agriculture Service (SAG) in the Ministery de Agriculture, Chile. She has worked in the first part of the productive chain related to the requirements that have to be achieved by the production farms (bovine, ovine, pigs, and poultry) to export to different countries, and also in the final step related to the certification process, where the authority ensure trough an animal health certificate that the product animal is safe for human consumption.

As a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at UC Davis, Pilar is interested in one health, food safety, sustainable production systems, and how to improve the collaboration between government, academia and the private sector to make better decisions to prioritize climate change. In her fellowship year, she aims to complement her food safety and animal health background by increasing her knowledge of public policy issues, inclusive governance strategies considering sustainable livestock, conflict management, and climate change. Also, learning innovative research in agricultural and rural development will lead to future solutions to societal problems.
