Bio

Dr. Abdulkarim Lawal Umar Mayere is the Special Assistant on Energy to the Governor of Kaduna State. He is among the leading advocates of sustainability in Nigeria and is an expert in renewable energy technologies. Dr. Mayere developed the first utility-scale grid-tie solar power plant in at the Nigerian University. Prior to his current role, he was the Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna State Power Supply company where he was the youngest head of government parastatal in Nigeria. His accomplishments at Kaduna include the deployment of a solar photovoltaic system to primary healthcare centers, the establishment of the Kaduna Energy Academy, and authoring various policy documents. Dr. Mayere holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Communications and Electronics from the University of Leicester, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Renewable Energy from the University of Nottingham. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Dr. Mayere hopes to ensure reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy for all.
