ECH 1 — "The Design of Coffee" may be one of the most popular electives on the UC Davis campus, but it has also gained popularity at Osaka University. Tonya Kuhl, chair of the UC Davis Department of Chemical Engineering and co-director of the Coffee Center research facility, has taught the class as a three-week intensive international exchange subject at the Japan-based college.
UC Davis professors with a longstanding connection to Nepal, along with their Nepalese colleagues, lead a learning exchange program that offers students a profound immersion in the country’s vibrant culture, environment and history. Through hands-on projects designed with a small rural village, students gain a unique perspective on global citizenship and community engagement while creating special bonds with new friends.
The ninth annual International Connections Reception, which will be hosted by Global Affairs on March 7, 2024, will bring together the UC Davis community to celebrate several award and grant programs, including the 2023-24 recipients of Global Affairs Seed Grants for International Activities. Four faculty and staff members from UC Davis are being recognized for their outstanding global engagement work with two key awards: the Chancellor’s Award for International Engagement and the Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Award. These awards recognize the outstanding work of UC Davis faculty and staff in international education, research and service.
A team from UC Davis and the University of Minnesota designed an intensive training program on Point of Care Ultrasound Echocardiography for healthcare professionals in The Gambia. UC Davis physicians involved in the program include Dr. Christine McBeth, course director, along with Drs. Juliette Gerardo, Brent Oftedal, Yeoshina Pillay and Averyl Shindruk.
