UC Davis Releases First Global Strategic Plan

Advancing the Global Good in California and Around the World

The University of California, Davis, released its first global strategic plan that creates a five-year global vision for the institution in support of the campus strategic plan, “To Boldly Go.”  This plan focuses on strategies and actions that the campus will undertake to strengthen and accelerate its global contributions.

“We are a global university that is committed to developing solutions to pressing global challenges and preparing all students to become the collaborative and inclusive leaders of tomorrow,” said Chancellor Gary S. May. “Global engagement enriches our lives, our work and our future. I look forward to building upon the strong efforts already happening on campus to advance this plan for the global good in California and around the world.”

The plan is a result of a multi-year process coordinated by a committee with faculty, staff and students representing colleges, schools and units from across campus. The committee was co-chaired by Dean and Professor H. Rao Unnava from the Graduate School of Management and Professor and Department Chair Fadi Fathallah from the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

“We would like to thank everyone who helped develop this plan. It was a true collaborative effort, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration as we move toward implementation,” said Unnava. “Together, we can foster a teaching, learning, research and service community that advances and deepens our global engagement,” added Fathallah.

The Global Strategic Plan contains five goals:

  • Goal 1 - Provide an education that prepares all of our students to successfully meet the needs, challenges and opportunities of a diverse and interconnected world.
  • Goal 2 - Enable and support research that matters at the frontiers of knowledge, across and between the disciplines, in support of the health of the planet and the physical and societal well-being of its inhabitants.
  • Goal 3 - Embrace diversity, practice inclusive excellence and strive for equity. Make UC Davis a first choice for education and employment by supporting a culture that values the contributions and aspirations of all students, staff and faculty, promotes wellness and cultivates the open interchange of ideas.
  • Goal 4 - Support our community, region, state, nation and world through mutually beneficial and impactful partnerships that reflect a firm commitment to teaching, research and service and increase the visibility and reputation of the university.
  • Goal 5 - Create an intellectual and physical environment that supports the development of an innovative and entrepreneurial culture that extends the benefits of our research, education and outreach activities beyond the boundaries of the university.
