Seed Grants for International Activities
Deadline: December 14, 2023
Global Affairs partners with UC Davis schools and colleges, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Research to offer grants of up to $20,000 to support international research, spur future collaborations and stimulate external funding. We encourage faculty of all ranks and titles to submit proposals. This year we will focus one of the seed grants on CAMPOS or CAMPSSAH scholars (past and present) and one on research collaboration with Taiwan, funded by the UC Davis-Taiwan Collaborative Research Fund, in memory of former chancellor Larry Vanderhoef.
Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals
Deadline: January 8, 2024
Global Affairs, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Sustainability and Grand Challenges have partnered to offer grants to promote multidisciplinary collaborations focused on one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, we expect to fund up to five awards of up to $7,500 each. One award will go to a proposal focused on climate change; one award to a proposal focused on ensuring equal opportunity and reducing inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies, and action (SDG 10.3); and one award for CAMPOS/CAMPSSAH scholars. The final two awards can focus on any of the 17 SDGs.
Chancellor's Awards for International Engagement
Deadline: January 8, 2024
The Chancellor's Awards for International Engagement recognize individual faculty and staff members for their outstanding international commitment in carrying out the university's teaching, research and service missions. There are two categories of awards: faculty (Academic Senate or Academic Federation) and staff.
Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Awards
Deadline: January 12, 2024
The Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Award, a partnership between Global Affairs and the Academic Senate, recognizes the commitment of UC Davis instructors who go above and beyond to make impactful global learning experiences accessible to UC Davis students. The selection committee members will review all nominees. Two awardees will be selected: one member of the Academic Senate and one member of the Academic Federation.
Connect with UC Davis Humphrey Fellows
Each year, Global Affairs hosts 12 Humphrey Fellows for ten months beginning in August. Tecnológico de Monterrey Seed Funding for Exploratory Research 2023
Deadline: November 13
Global Affairs is excited to announce the call for proposals for Seed Funding for Exploratory Research between UC Davis and Tec de Monterrey with co-sponsorship from Alianza MX. The call is focused on three themes — Climate Change, Public Health and Advancing Underserved Populations — and will fund individual projects up to a total of $20,000 (with $10,000 allocated to each institution). We encourage you to work with Tec de Monterrey partners and UC Davis colleagues to submit a proposal.

UC Davis Fossil Fuel-Free Pathway Plan
Deadline: October 27, 2023
The UC Davis Fossil Fuel-Free Pathway Plan is the first of its kind undertaken by a University of California campus and one of the earliest comprehensive plans in the US higher education sector. The Campus Advisory Committee on Sustainability is seeking input on the Pathway Plan's draft, which is posted and open for public comment until October 27, 2023. After the comment period closes, the committee will review the submissions and provide the plan to the Chancellor.
Fulbright Opportunities
Fulbright Chair Program - Chile
Global Affairs is collaborating with the Fulbright Office in Chile on the Fulbright Chair program. If you have a faculty partner in Chile with whom you are working closely and would like to have them join you in Davis for a quarter, this is an ideal opportunity. Fulbright-Humphrey Reception

UC Davis Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Mary Croughan and Global Affairs Vice Provost and Dean Joanna Regulska cordially invite you to a reception in honor of the Fulbright Scholars, Students and Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows. The reception will also recognize the larger community that supports these prestigious programs, including UC Davis colleagues, mentors and advisors, as well as local community members who support our Fulbright Scholars, Students and Humphrey Fellows. Lights, Camera, Conversation: Film Screening and Night with the Director and Cast of ‘From Here’
November 2, Davis Veterans Memorial Center
Join Global Affairs and the City of Davis for a free film screening of the documentary 'From Here,' a coming-of-age portrait of young people caught at the crosshairs of immigration debates on both sides of the Atlantic. The film's director, Christina Antonakos-Wallace, as well as two of the film's protagonists, will participate in a Q&A after the film. Refreshments will be served. Register .

Collabinar: Community Science for One Health in Peru
November 8, 3–4:00 pm, Zoom
The Center for Community and Citizen Science in the School of Education presents community science research that was developed to improve human health, bat community and ecosystem services through a cooperative national sampling of bats' distribution in Peru's urban and rural areas. Amanda Vilcheza, a Ph.D. student in the communication department at Cornell University, will share the preliminary results of 2023 community science research developed to improve human health, bats and ecosystem services. Shared Decision-Making: A Catalyst for Real-World Research Solutions

The Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable, in collaboration with the HIBAR (Highly Integrative Basic and Responsive) Research Alliance, will convene a webinar to discuss how cross-sectoral leadership teams can collaborate in shared decision-making when working on use-inspired basic research. Panelists include UC Davis Professor Christine Kreuder Johnson, director of the EpiCenter for Disease Dynamics.
California Germany Agrivoltaics Conference

The first California Germany Agrivoltaics Conference will bring together corporates, policy-makers, researchers, developers, and farmers to explore how agrivoltaics can contribute to both resilience and sustainability. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. Register.
Designing and Implementing Global Learning/Internationalization at Home
November 3
Florida International University is hosting the 4th annual Global Learning Forum, including two workshops packed with insights from scholars and practitioners on the fundamental tools for implementing global learning and the tools to do so on any campus. The workshops will offer useful insights for faculty who are looking for effective ways to incorporate global learning experiences in their curriculum; administrators who are responsible for ensuring that their students and faculty gain critical skills to constructively contribute to the global society and workplace and exchange of new knowledge; and staff who support faculty and administrators in implementing a global learning curriculum. UC Davis Global Affairs Releases Five-Year Strategic Plan
Global Affairs at the University of California, Davis, released its 2023-28 strategic plan that creates a five-year roadmap for the unit. For over a year, staff committees, with representatives from across Global Affairs, worked together to develop a framework for the unit’s future.
Global Community Emergency Fund
In Global Affairs, we believe in the value all members of our global community bring to UC Davis. Unfortunately, some of those members have been impacted by disasters and crises around the world and they require critical support. This is why Global Affairs launched the UC Davis Global Community Emergency Fund.
A gift of $5 or more to the Global Community Emergency Fund during our October Crowdfund UC Davis campaign can bring help, security, aid, stability and hope to our UC Davis global community. We encourage you to join us in supporting the UC Davis global community by learning more and making a gift.
Day 1: Times Higher Education Summit 2023
Delegates from around the world, including Chancellor Gary May, recently gathered in Sydney, Australia for the 2023 Times Higher Education Summit. Exploring the theme, "Collaborating for Greatness in a Multidisciplinary World," Chancellor May represented UC Davis and discussed why diversity should be a priority for universities.
